Brand Statement:
Wine has always been defined by boundaries.
Even in a world with vanishing borders, wine production remains largely provincial.
But the world is in constant motion, ever changing, always evolving. The Earth’s plates move apart. Other things come together for the first time.
Knowing that the greatest grapes grow all over the globe, a decade ago we embarked on an ambitious adventure: to bring a new and truly world-class wine into this world.
Allow the vineyard to speak for itself. Free, limitless and LucidWild.

It’s important to cherish the underdogs in life because more often than not, they are the ones destined for greatness when given the chance. All it takes is patience and support.
Similar to how a vineyard grape is nurtured into a great wine. When given the opportunity, excellence can blossom from the unexpected.

LA PELLE ~ THE SHOVEL

This wine label design reflects the salt-of-the-earth nature of the family owned Zilzie winery and the importance of their hands-on involvement in every wine making decision.
The winery sits along the Murray River, which has been the lifeblood of the family business for generations. So we created macro imagery of different colors of ink flowing through the pores of the hands of each family member.

Perchance Estates is crafted by renowned winemaker, Mike Smith. His wines have been twice featured on the cover of Wine Spectator, and he has personally received the most 100 points scores per vintage – twice - from the most respected wine critic in the world, Robert Parker Jr.
This past season alone, Mike added five more perfect 100-point scores to his very impressive resume, and Perchance Estates is the blank canvas upon which he has created his next masterpiece.

The Power Of Rebranding: From Hidden Ridge Vineyard to Immortal Estate.
In its original incarnation, Hidden Ridge Vineyard was a small vineyard with a cult-like following. Its 2013 Impassable Mountain Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon received a coveted 100-point score from venerated wine critic Robert Parker, who described it as a “quintessential example of what perfection is.” The brand’s only other wine, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon 55% Slope, also received a laudable 97+ score. Yet despite such critical accolades and high remarks, the vineyard and its compelling wines went largely unrecognized. The problem wasn’t the wine, but rather the branding or lack thereof.

In order to navigate the flight path of life, we all need an Aileron.
It’s the little wing that helps steer us into the direction we want to go, to further explore and seek true happiness.
Here’s to you and your Aileron.
It was the first strike of a typewriter key that sent a writer’s mind off on a twisted trail of personal expression, detailing a perspective for all of us to agree with or not.
Wine making is no different. A personal expression coming from the mind and palate of one person. Their personal Editorial of the terroir, the fruit and the wine.
You don’t have to buy into it, it’s here for you to read it, or shred it.
The sound of silence is said to be a manifestation of the state of amazement. When something so sumptuous hits your lips,
saying nothing can say it all.

"Cab is King in our contemporary civilization of wine drinkers. Palates have become more sophisticated, expectations are higher. You need not be a Royal to live the dream of enjoying impeccable Cabernet.
I am noble but approachable. I am fit for a King and Queen, I am fit for Chad and Alicia next door, I am fit for whomever respects and loves the almighty Cab."
“What a piece of work is man!” A phrase within a monologue by Prince Hamlet in Shakespeare’s play of the same name.
Hamlet is saying that although humans may appear to think and act “nobly” they are essentially “dust”.
Hamlet is expressing his melancholy to his old friends ove the difference between the best that men aspire to be, and how they actually behave; the great divide that depresses him.
Pull the cork and pontificate on that.
In French, tranche means "slice." The original package design (seen at the bottom) was a direct visual translation of the financial meaning of Tranche. Gauge was brought on board to refresh the brand and get away from the financial visual.

Letterhead Wine is a project that brings together three distinctive elements: a 100-point winemaker, tiny allocations of single-vineyard, highly-prized grapes from some of the most desirable sites in Napa Valley.
The label draws upon the owners’ journey and the anticipation of making a wine year after year—an empty page on which they get to write the next chapter. Every day presents a blank page and a new opportunity to tell any story imaginable.

As a group, we crafted Belle Radici, a wine created to celebrate our collective love of the earth.

In French, Meli Melo means a mishmash or a hodgepodge. Philippe Melka, the mad scientist of winemaking, experiments with the blending of the best varietals. And if you're lucky enough to meet this mad scientist, you'll discover that he also has a wicked sense of humor. Which allowed us to have some fun with a brand especially made to celebrate his mastery of blending.

Frias Wine is a rebranding project. The old brand had reached a point where it was no longer relevant and felt dated. Shit happens. So Gauge visited the property and quickly discovered the unique terrain that housed these vineyards. A beautiful bowl shaped property nestled on the edge of the mountain side. It literally felt like we were standing in the middle of a topography map of the area. Hence the design approach.
